My main response to being asked whether I root for the Patriots or the
Eagles
Rams.

Same here, and I’m (North) American.
But NOW is the time to go to Walmart, Autozone, the mall, anywhere that’s normally really crowded. It’s like being a VIP.

We are both north american.

So you call yourself a norteamericano? ;)
There are usually geographic vs etho-cultural distinctions when using that term, so I tread carefully.
I just hate the monopoly on the word “American”

No need to tread lightly! I’m just a bit of a jackass if I’m honest. It’s perfectly fine and everyone understands what you mean when you say that!
However, I like looking at things a bit wierdly, specially with language, I feel that our wording of stuff and how we speak is of vast significance...
Icould potentially call myself north american, after all, my country does sit entirely in the North American tectonic plate.
And also I am “from the states” because my country is called The United States of Mexico. Not “The United Mexican States” as some insist.
I guess this kind of stuff happens when you name your country after an entire continent with almost a billion people living in it.
Man, if I was president of this country I’d insist that we call ourselves by our full formal name, just to mess with people’s minds!

And we could even make the peso and dollar symbols the same just to confuse everyone! Oh, wait...
There’s just so much political correctness out there (for example, “Hispanic” is being replaced with “Latino” which is cool as long as I get the memo!) I grew up with parents who lived in California in the 70s where “Chicano” was the norm. Now most people dislike that term.
I’m more of a geography nerd/pedant. I generally refer to Mexico as Latin America or Mesoamerica because it was part of Spanish colonialism for so long... but only “North America” with respect to a map or with NAFTA.
Quebec? I have no clue.

United States of Americonian is the correct terminology, I believe.

In my opinion, The Jeep Patriots should be able to easily beat the AMC Eagles... much newer design, better all around performance.
But they’re losing.
I blame Trump for this.

Maybe the Eagles have a tougher Quarter-panel?

Man, I could write an essay about identity.
Political correctness, as I think its understood in the United States of America, to me makes no sense because its about prohibiting, not necesarily teaching.
Words carry two important definers: linguistic sense, and historical context.
A term like the N word for instance is kind of dumb and ridicoulosly offensive. Firstly linguistically it’s not exactly right, and it’s context is so disgusting and hateful that I cannot even bring myself to spell it out.
But people get angry if you tell them not to say it unless you explain its painful context. I think its the same with other terms that perhaps did not carry a negative connotation linguistically but earned a negative historical context overtime.
We don’t own the context of words: society does, and we need to focus on teaching eachother about the pains that some terms induce rather than prohibiting them. Afterall, he who forgets history is doomed to repeat it.

Speaking of Spanish colonialism, have you ever seen the chart/matrix that defined social status based on your exact combination of ethnicities? That’s the most elaborate formal codification I think I’ve ever seen. This is a bad copy, but you get the idea.
Or you have some of the worst cases of ethnic oppression like the Rwandan “civil war” based almost entirely on two enemy groups that were basically concocted by warlords to sow the seeds of hatred.
People are amazing sometimes.

Yes, the famous caste system was actually the reason for the independence movement.
Little does anyone know that it was a movment about Criollo rights (those of spanish parents born in Mexico) and not necesarily one againts the spanish crown.
I need to read more about Mexican history, its fascinating.
Anyway, Mexico is a very diverse nation, its not like the US, but we still have a very varied ethinc makeup (of which the INEGI (national statistics)doesn’t report). If you ask Britannica, our ethic makeup looks like this:
64% of Mexicans are what you guys call latino (meztiso or mixed race due the colonial rule that saw indigenous people hook up with the spanish either by choice, or sometimes shamefully by force)
18% of the population is made up of the many different indigenous populations (grouping them all together without explaining this is a bit unwise)
15% of Mexicans are caucasian, or white (most are immigrants, like my family members)
the rest is a mix of Asian immigrants (we saw a lot of Japanese immigration in the 50s) African immigrants and Arabs.
Mexico has a tough time with race, we might’ve gotten rid of the caste system many years ago, but man, racism in this country is insane. we see cases of the local clinics putting birth control on people of indigenous desent because of racist ideas. Even our obsession with Gueros to me is out of control. Think of
the bluest eye
but in a place where it’s the minority population that is fantasised in the whitewashed media.

I almost went to the range again today because they were all apparently dead thanks to the game.
I used to go to Cheesecake Factory as sort of my SB tradition for many years. I was surrounded by women that were hating me because they hate that their men watch this stupid sport and invite people over to watch it. There were also usually 1-2 totally emasculated men in there, but it was mostly just a cloud of estrogen. Decided on it based on the fact it was the most feminine restaurant I could think of outside of Panera Bread. I’m sure the places with TVs are full of sportsball watching men.

I wonder if that last part is why I’ve never felt in danger when in Mexico. My family is afraid when I go down there, my in-laws (that I go with) are afraid to venture outside their resort and the tourist areas, etc. I have never even had a questionable experience walking around the colonias and barrios late at night in search of street food.

I’ve only half-jokingly used “Unitedstatesian” and I think it needs to catch on.
In Spanish we’re North Americans, while Mexicans and Canadians have their own special designation. I want one too!
Apparently “ estadounidense ” is rare and awkward in most places.

I haven’t kept up with sports in years and don’t care about the super bowl
, but as an American, I feel obligated to go to a sports bar and watch it anyways

I paid a dollar once to enter a March Madness pool and Saint Joseph beat some other obscure team and I won $50. Well, $49, really... I think that was basketball...
